Day 2: Heading to see the Fam in Fentress

  • Pulled out about 7:40am, I am fairly proud of this early time! We really appreciated how easy it was to leave Amarillo, thanks GPS!
  • Passed through Claredon, TX, home to the wedding ranch. Think it would have been entertaining to take a tour!
  • Moving farther South through Texas was surprised that the ground was such a deep red color!
  • Childress was a very fun looking town. Home to businesses such as "Hippy Cow Chick Clothes" and a wonderful bakery where we enjoyed an Apple Cherry Fritter and an old Fashioned Chocolate donut I still think of fondly.
  • Coming from the city Dad and I thought about what social programs looked like in the country as opposed to the city. Two sides of the coin always share an edge.
  • Filled up some gas in Hamlin, taken aback by a full service station. A good 'ol boy came up to make conversation joking about whether they make a "big" cooper  and not just a mini copper. Was surprised to found out that they do. Drilling operations were really busy around here.
  • Picked up some wine for my cousin outside of Bang, TX and my Dad picked up some Fat Tire. Hope the "Hot to Trot" wine is as good as it's name!

  • Outside of Brownswood was given some advice on a scenic route down into San Antonio! Thanks Mike!
  • All of the field are alive with wild flowers, absolutely stunning. Ahhhhh.
  • Made it into Fentress and how wonderful to see JENA!!! and Dad got to meet his niece  Rainee after a couple decades. She looks beautiful!

  • Rainee cooked up her very own pig for us and we almost ate it all before she came on home from a movie with her boyfriend. Thank you Nugget :-)
  • Talked about family and shared stories! How Henry was run over by my Dad, Jena would drink whiskey and play poker with Grandad! Rainee shared her love of O.U. with us and instantly bonded with Dad! Dad also shared a story about his sister's husband visiting the family after a rough patch and Grandad making him do every dirty job he could think of. The last story revolved around the husband dehorning some cattle in his brand new white button up!
  • A lovely end to an amazing day!
