Day 3:  Headed into San Antonio.

  • Morning came and and Jena, Dad and I poked our feet under the same table and drank some coffee. A real Payne kind of morning.

  • Jena knew of a wonderful place in town that made Breakfast Taco's!!! A quick run into Luling, Jena sure did have fun in the mini.
  • Rainee joined us a bit later in the morning and we all got ready to head into San Antonio. Jena and Rainee wanted to show Dad "Dirty Dicks Last Resort" on the river walk. Shortly their after Rainee's boyfriend came over and we headed out.
  • Rainee  saved us by figuring out the GPS! San Antonio here we come!
  • The day was hot down in San Antonio but sure was a beautiful ride!
  • Had a great chance to talk a little "Diablo" gaming with Austyn. Go Austyn inferno level already!!!
  • Dad was enjoying the slow pace of the river and admiring the beautiful plants and flowers.
  • Rainee dragged Austyn(sp?) off to the mall, and the three of us found a beautiful little spot on the river to enjoy a beer and some tea. Our thoughts ran off into the philosophical on that sunny little bank.

  • A few gentle breezes took us off the bank and up the steps of a 1930's work project bridge, and I asked Dad about Grandpa's time in the Civilian Conservation Corp Camps. Suddenly my imagination drifted to what the walk would have looked like in the late thirties, gowns, speakeasies, and a changing world.
  • Dirty Dicks was dripping in sarcasm, and I had frog legs for the first time, they were so tender... happy thoughts!
  • Jena and I snuck off for a Texas shot of Tequila, and were accused by our waitress of cheating on her :-)
  • At the end of a tasty meal our waitress was able to relax and shared her dreams of making it to C.U. boulder to study advertising and where we learned it is one of the best schools in the country for it.
  • On the suggestion of nice waitress, and Rainee's iphone, we went to a local coffee shop. Oddly enough right across the street from a Starbucks. The coffee was lovely!

  • On the way back dad became inthralled with a Cypress tree outside and a host was thrilled that we were interested in the local plants and just shared his knowledge! Go Dad!
  • Upon heading home we drank a beer and some wine and got some tasty fajita and Carne Asada taco's and watermelon from Luling, home of the watermelon thump! Rainnee headed off to work.

  • A wonderful women stopped by the house, a dear friend of Jena's and we sat on the front porch and had an after dinner coffee.
  • Dad become lost in a passion blossom and truly "saw" the flower through drawing it.
  • Full moon was climbing up into the sky and Jena and I got some wine, some beer and played music into the night while Dad listened, we all laughed, and sang!

  • It was an honor to hear Jena play us her song. I could feel the force of it.
  • The night came calmly after that. Until tomorrow!
